Re: ITV episodes available online but not on V6 box

But these apps have been developed for Sky+, Sky Q, YouView, Freeview Play, Freesat + Android & iOS amongst others I'm sure. They're basically available on all platforms. What is so prohibitive that they can't develop an app for the TiVo platform? Are you honestly saying you believe VM have nothing to do with this?

Cable TV is a unique platform & always has been due to the fact individual cabinets can be targetted with MPEG2 broadcast output. Cable TV was the first to offer OD/Catch-up services to any broadcaster that wanted to use it since NGTV switchover in around 2000. As a result these services became established on cable long before the other pay platforms. Most have seen fit not to change this as it is a cheap way of distribution (ie. Virgin is paying for the infrastructure, not them).

TiVo box turning off

Hi there,

Over the past couple days my TiVo box is constantly turning itself off. I've had a look at cables, switched it off and on, unplugged it etc and it's still doing the same thing.

It seems like a fault a few other uses on the forum have expressed. I'm looking to see how to get by it. Thank you, Matt.

Cannot find the Challenge channel on Catchup

Hi, this is my first post.
I am on the brink of leaving Sky and for a couple of weeks have Sky and Virgin.
After a few days of use I am working my way through the features.

One of my favourite channels is Challenge. On Sky they are one of the channels available on catch-up where you can download and watch a selection of what they have broadcast over the past month.
However, I cannot find it on Virgin Media. I have searched for the channel and for the TV show I want to catch up with, but to no avail.
Is this channel unavailable on Virgin catch-up, and if so, then why?

Virgin Media Store

I have been a loyal Virgin customer for a good number of years.  I pay a lot of money for Virgin media each month, and have a full package, which includes the Sky Movies package.  So, can you imagine my increased annoyance at this Virgin Store business that is taking over your service?

As a sales and marketing professional, I am no idiot when it comes to generating business.  I find it unethical that you have slowly and cleverly introduced Virgin Store as a way to hold all the best older films for a ridiculous price, probably more than buying them on dvd, even though I signed up for a full subscription service for films.

When you advertise your new films, you only mention they are available on Virgin Store, even though they are available through the normal route, but you don’t want your customers to know that do you?  You want them to think it’s only available on Virgin Store so they pay more for it for no good reason. Completely unethical and misleading.  is this actually allowed?

I have just tried to book Charlie and the Chocolate Family with my daughter, and it’s only available on Virgin Store, surprise, surprise for nearly £11!!  Are you having a laugh?  How on earth can you justify this?  We watched it on Netflix instead.

Virgin also, obviously, has arrangements with Sky to ensure that some films are not available as part as the subscription package so it forces customers to pay ridiculous amounts for films that have been released for years on the Store.  You must be having a good laugh at your customers and rubbing your hands together.

This is not the service I signed up for and pay a lot of money for.  I am sick and tired of trying to book an old film for it to be only available on Virgin Stores.  Even BBC box sets are sometimes only on Virgin Stores, what am I paying a TV licence for?

I am not stupid, I can see exactly what is happening, pulling the wool over customers eyes to charge extortionate amounts for old films, money for old rope.  I want value for money not feeling like I am being ripped off.

So Virgin Media - I dread to think what your long term strategy is with your TV services but I would like this nonesense to stop and start giving your customers the service and value they deserve.

Thank you.

TV keeps turning off then back on again

Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help or not, but for the last 3/4 weeks when I am watching live Sky Sport or BT Sports my TV turns its self off (black screen can usually still hear sound) and then turns its self back on again, picture is then fine and usually within 5mins the whole things seems to repeat its self.

This seems to happen on both HD and SD, and i've only noticed it when watching live football, all the other channels seem fine.

I have reset the box checked the HDMI lead and none have made a difference. Its been working fine for the last 12 months with no issues at all just seems to have started about 3/4 weeks ago.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Chris

Sky may not hold the rights to all the old films, so VM may have negotiated them with companies who own the rights to the films to rebroadcast them, hence why they show up there [in the store].  Sky have recently been taken over by Comcast (an American outfit) so prices may go up (or not) and VM may need to re-negotiate a new agreement.

This gets complicated and significant costs may be involved and as VM (who are owned by Liberty Global, another American company) exist to make a profit; a large portion of that comes from ISP services and TV, and depending on how the old films are stored (eg on servers in a data centre somewhere) and customer demand, etc. etc., a price point is set.  If you think this is too high, you can ask to cancel this service.

Buying stuff from an online store feature is how it's going, and all large tech companies have such an offering and VM are a bit late to the party. Competition is fierce (as highlighted in your post) and there will be winners and losers.

Retentions closed?

Its end of contract time. Child number 2 is due and time to re-negotiate. I tried to call retentions but it seems to be closed, yet the automated response says open 8am til 10pm. Its currently 19.33???

I'm on the VIP for £91pm. New customers are getting it for £89 and the average in my area seems to be about £90. Sky are offering pretty much everything for £78. I'd stay for the ease of it, but so far, the best is £99 plus £50 bill credit, yesterday. Dont really fancy paying more for th same package. Anyone had any dealings with retentions, and know why they seem to be unduly closed?

You should take VIP at £99 with a £50 credit. That represents a good deal.

Go down to the lowest level on everything and then Virgin will make you an offer you can't refuse.  Whenever I reduce TV down to Player TV and broadband speed to lowest available within a month I get calls to upgrade on all the services.  And now I have 200mps BB, full house tv, sky sports and prem sports + unlimited uk calls.   I am a sucker for an offer...

What on earth is going on?

So as from last Friday, we have suddenly lost TV signal, then it goes to Starting Up, which takes a while. Few minutes TV and the same happens,. This goes on in a cycle for ages. Reset, and the same thing happens. Did a status check and told equipment is ok. Few local friends (London N16) reporting the same issue. Will be expecting a refund!

They are bloody useless in fact I am seriously thinking of leavingVirgin all together! Crap Wifi
Slow broadband and disgusting customer service as you said on hold forever and then if you get a reply they are not listening to the problem or because you never speak to someone in this Country! But surprise surprise if they want to sell you more packages for more money you get to speak to someone over here I have no problem with anyone but I do expect an experienced plain speaker!Im not daft just furious
