Pop up boxes re closing down and operation standby

Hi,
Two boxes keep mopping up on screen which is infuriating, nothing I do or no button I press eliminates it. The first is 'standby cause no operation' and the second asks if I want to close down but doesn't respond to yes or no, nor anything else! Close to abandoning virgin RB altogether!
