If there's nothing interfering with the remote signal, it could be your TiVo's GUI is crashing- try the following
press thumbs down thumbs up play play
See if that gets some life back to it. If not, hard reset (power off for 30 seconds at the wall)
Does it come back to life (the remote functions that is)?
